The Argentine gaming watchdog is encouraging operators to utilize the new .bet.ar domain to foster trust in the jurisdiction’s regulatory framework.
To cultivate confidence in the jurisdiction’s regulatory framework, the Argentine gaming watchdog is urging operators to employ the new .bet.ar domain. Commencing July 21st, entities will be able to register their .bet.ar domain, and all registrations will necessitate approval from the Argentine regulator.
The Argentine Lottery Association (ALEA) stated that utilizing the suffix will enable the public to differentiate between legal gambling operators and unauthorized gambling websites. ALEA encompasses the national body that regulates, manages, and oversees entertainment activities within the nation.
ALEA asserted that adopting bet.ar will furnish a precise tool for the national lottery to combat illicit gambling by controlling and identifying platforms operating outside the domain area.
ALEA stated that businesses within the broader digital ecosystem, such as telecommunications and banking groups, will also be able to identify authorized operations by deploying the suffix.
It also added that certain provinces have formally declared that they will utilize this domain area for their authorized online gambling. The regulatory bodies in each province of Argentina will be accountable for approving applications from applicants to utilize the new domain.
ALEA has declared their intention to grant permission for online gambling platforms to operate within Argentina. This move will facilitate the establishment of standardized records for online gambling websites that have received official approval from the government. It will also contribute to the clear identification of operators and platforms that are authorized by each governing body. Ultimately, it will enhance communication strategies aimed at identifying illegal and unauthorized operators and websites.
This advancement is a consequence of Federal Law Resolution No. 42/2019 and Regulation No. 68/2019, and was formally endorsed by the National Law and Technology Secretariat through the National Internet Domain Name Registry Authority.
Buenos Aires City was the first region in Argentina to formally establish licensing requirements for online gambling, approving online gambling regulations in February 2020. ALEA recently indicated that a majority of provinces are now contemplating or progressing towards regulating gambling, following the COVID-19 pandemic.
