Spain’s Gambling Revenue Surges 51% in Q1

Spains gambling total gaming revenue (TGR) skyrocketed by 51% in the action-packed first quarter, reaching €304.9 million, a 51% jump compared to the same period in 2022.

Spain’s TGR is released every three months by the Spanish regulator, the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).

Despite the year-over-year increase in income, overall TGR for the quarter dipped by 2.7% compared to the previous quarter.

The casino sector contributed the most to revenue, reaching €143.3 million, a 29.1% year-over-year increase.

Spain’s betting sector totaled €130.6 million, a substantial 100.1% increase compared to the first quarter of 2022, while bingo generated €3.3 million, down 6.6%.

Poker’s total TGR was €27.3 million, up 24.9% year-over-year. But the most significant growth came from the competition revenue segment, reaching €250,000, a 730.4% increase year-over-year, compared to €30,000 in the first quarter of 2022.

Marketing spending in the first quarter totaled €93.3 million, down 0.8% year-over-year.

This included €50.1 million in promotional spending, €30 million in advertising, €11.8 million in affiliate spending, and €1.2 million in sponsorship spending.

Sponsorship spending saw the fastest growth, up 93.1% year-over-year. Meanwhile, advertising spending saw the largest decline, down 12.7%.

In the quarter, the total number of active monthly player accounts was 1,158,628, up 11.0% year-over-year.
