Chilean Casinos Hit Record Tax Contribution in October

Chiles gaming authority, the Superintendence of Casinos of Games (SCJ), announced that the industry’s tax contribution hit a record peak in October, reaching 16.85 billion Chilean pesos (approximately £15 million/€17.6 million). This surge was fueled by record-breaking gambling income.

This marks the highest tax contribution since 2008, driven by casinos generating a total gross gaming revenue (GGR) of 54.9 billion Chilean pesos during October.

All 26 casinos in Chile were operational throughout October, welcoming a total of 551,840 visitors. This marked the first month since the onset of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in March 2020 that all 26 casinos were fully operational.

The SCJ noted that casinos are operating at reduced capacity due to the pandemic.

Of the total contribution, 7.75 billion Chilean pesos originated from Chile’s casino tax. The total value-added tax on gambling amounted to 7.37 billion Chilean pesos, while income tax reached 1.72 billion Chilean pesos.

Sun Monticello contributed the most, paying 10.7 billion Chilean pesos in taxes to its regional government and an equivalent amount to the city government.

Enjoy Viña del Mar casino paid 4.455 billion Chilean pesos in taxes to its regional government and city government.

Meanwhile, Marina del Sol Talcahuano casino contributed the third highest amount, paying 3.888 billion Chilean pesos to its regional government and city government respectively.
