The Scandinavian gaming powerhouse Better Collective is remaining tight-lipped amidst speculation that it’s eyeing an acquisition of Spotlight Sports Group, the firm behind a collection of the United Kingdom’s leading horse racing and sports wagering guidance platforms.
A Sunday Times article indicated that the private equity group Exponent, Spotlight’s present proprietor, is aiming to divest the company for a hefty £500 million. The Times piece highlighted Better Collective as the most probable purchaser, but thus far, the company is neither confirming nor denying the conjecture.
“It’s purely speculative at this juncture,” a Better Collective representative informed Gambling Insider. “Our history is a testament – when a prospective agreement emerges in our sector, we’re invariably a contender. However, we won’t provide commentary on hearsay.”
Spotlight’s notoriety stems from its portfolio of horse racing publications, notably the renowned Racing Post. Furthermore, the group possesses several well-liked online wagering tipster websites such as MyRacing, Free Super Tips, and Soccerbase. They’ve also set their sights on the American market with their Pickwise label.
This isn’t the initial instance of whispers circulating about Exponent’s desire to sell Spotlight. Back in 2021, rumors began to surface when Exponent initiated discussions with investment banks. Subsequently, they brought in PJT Partners to oversee the sale.
Better Collective, with headquarters in Copenhagen and publicly traded in Stockholm, boasts a market capitalization approaching $800 million. They already manage an extensive network of wagering advice websites, encompassing prominent names like Bettingexpert.com, Irishracing.com, and SmartBet.
Enhanced Collective has been making significant strides within the United States market, acquiring both Action Network and RotoGrinders in the preceding year. The incorporation of Spotlight into their portfolio represents a strategic maneuver that solidifies their American footprint and is anticipated to propel expansion in crucial sectors.
