UK Advertising Regulator Clamps Down on Underage Gambling Appeal

The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) intervened concerning a social media update from online personality Astrid Wett endorsing the wagering platform Festival Free Bets. Apparently, the ASA maintains regulations regarding gaming promotions, including a stipulation prohibiting individuals who are or *appear* under 25 from being prominently featured. Astrid was merely 23 at the time, yet she held a central role in this post on her (previously Twitter) X account, praising Festival Free Bets during the Cheltenham races.

Complaints arose, and the ASA concurred that it violated the guidelines. Astrid expressed remorse, claiming ignorance of the age restriction exceeding 18 for such matters, and pledged greater diligence. Conversely, Festival Free Bets entirely disregarded the ASA. A poor reflection – the ASA criticized their lack of accountability.

A gaming firm was recently informed by the advertising regulatory body that they were prohibited from featuring young individuals in their promotional materials, particularly those appearing to be under the age of 25. This decision aligns with a previous ruling from the preceding week, wherein another gaming enterprise faced censure for its advertising methodologies.
