UK Gambling Commission Fines Broadway Gaming £100,000 for Misleading Promotions

The United Kingdom Gambling Commission imposed a £100,000 fine on Broadway Gaming Ltd, an online gaming company located in Malta, for lacking transparency regarding the terms and conditions of promotions on five of its gambling platforms.

This situation originated in June 2016 when the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) raised concerns about a promotion on Broadway Gaming’s Butlers Bingo website. The advertisement promoted a “deposit £10, receive a £35 bonus” offer. However, it came to light that the advertisement breached the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) guidelines on displaying essential information in promotional materials. Essentially, it was flagged for being deceptive because it failed to provide a clear explanation of the offer’s terms. The ASA requested that Broadway Gaming remove the advertisement promptly.

However, the matter didn’t end there. The UK Gambling Commission investigated further and discovered comparable infractions on other Broadway Gaming websites, including Bingo Diamond, Casino of Dreams, Dotty Bingo, and Rehab Bingo.

An online wagering platform, Broadway Betting, is facing scrutiny for deceptive advertising practices. The UK Gambling Commission found the company’s failure to transparently disclose bonus terms and conditions a violation of responsible gaming regulations.

Consequently, the platform received a £100,000 penalty. A portion of the fine will offset the Commission’s investigative expenses. Furthermore, the Commission will publicize its findings, using Broadway Betting as a cautionary tale to deter similar conduct from other internet-based gambling entities.
